Boxing in KwaZulu-Natal was thriving prior to 1994. All race groups participated in the sport. But boxing legend Elijah Makhathini, who retired from sport in the late 1970’s, blames the current situation on administrators. ‘Tap Tap’, as he’s affectionately known, shot to prominence in the 1960’s after winning major local and international bouts.
