Thembalethu to get a new dormitory

Reading Time: < 1 minute

In the Western Cape the SABC’s radio and TV teams will help with painting and maintenance work and will hand over a dormitory to The Thembalethu School for the Disabled in Gugulethu on July 18. It is a special school which cares for and educates disabled children.
A small group of concerned women established the school in 1974 and it was registered as a special school to educate disabled children under the former Education and Training Department in 1983. The school currently has 26 classes with disabled children between the ages of five and 18.

The school’s main challenges include lack of transport, accommodation, library books and specialised computers.

SABC’s Western Cape News team will paint one of the school’s classrooms and walls on July 18. A dormitory will be handed over in partnership with the Hillsong Africa
Foundation and the Departments of Correctional Services, Women,
Children and People with Disabilities.

The children will also be entertained by artists and musicians.
