eThekwini Metro police has urged motorist to obey the rules of the road.

The eThekwini Municipality says it will deploy over 2 000 Metro police officers to increase safety and security during the December holidays.

This as thousands of holidaymakers are expected to make their way to the city for the holidays.

Municipality spokesperson Msawakhe Mayisela says the city’s law enforcement officials and lifeguards have undergone intensive training to ensure that they are ready for any eventuality.

“At all times during this time of the year safety and security is always our priority. That is why we are deploying over 2000 Metro police officers. We have also got private security officers, SAPS is also going to be on board.”

“But also we know very well that there’s always high volumes of traffic at the beachfront.”
