Police Minister Bheki Cele says

The Pretoria High Court has set aside Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane’s finding against Police Minister Bheki Cele of not providing adequate protection to two KwaZulu-Natal whistleblowers.

Advocate Mkhwebane’s 2018 report accused Cele of gross negligence, improper conduct and maladministration.

She recommended that he be reprimanded by President Cyril Ramaphosa.

This after there were attempts to kill two men who came forward with information about corruption involving several million rands in KwaZulu-Natal’s Umzimkhulu municipality.

The High Court ruled that the Public Protector misdirected herself, as it is the duty of the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) to arrange witness protection and not the police.

In the audio below, the Police Minister’s spokesperson Lirandzu Themba says the court ruling has vindicated the Minister:
