The Nutcracker is a delightful ballet with magical elements and beautiful music score by Tchaikovsky. The South African Mzansi Ballet (SAMB) presents this classic at the Joburg Theatre until September 16.
The two act ballet tells the story of a young girl, Clara, who receives a magical Nutcracker doll at a Christmas party. The doll comes to life, turns into a handsome prince, and takes her on a magical journey.
The SAMB’s Nutcracker is based on the traditional classical version created in St. Petersburg more than a century ago and was developed for the stage by artistic director Iain MacDonald and ballet mistresses Angela Malan and Lauren Dixon-Seager.
