The outcry over the Dalai Lama’s cancelled visit to South Africa continues to gather momentum. The exiled Tibetan spiritual leader cancelled his trip on October 4 after Pretoria failed to grant a visa in time for his planned flight today.

He was to attend Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu’s 80th birthday celebrations on Friday. Tutu launched a scathing attack on the ANC led government after he was informed of the Dalai Lama’s actions.
Meanwhile, chaos ensued between Wits University academics and students on Wednesday. The academics marched in protest what they call government’s silencing of the voice of the Dalai Lama.

Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu made a scathing attack on the government and the ANC. He was reacting at a media conference in Cape Town after the Tibetan spiritual leader cancelled his visit to South Africa because he hadn’t received an answer to his visa application. Tutu says the ANC-led government is worse than the former apartheid regime. He says this government does not represent him.

October 6, 2011The South African Government has blamed the Tibetan Spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, for cancelling his planned trip to –>South Africa, while his application was still being considered. The Department of International Relations says the visa was not refused.
