On Valentine’s Day this year South Africa and the international community woke up to the news of the death of Oscar Pistorius’s girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, who was shot by the blade runner, in their house at Silverwoods Country Estate east of Pretoria.
Pistorius told police that he mistook Steenkamp for a burglar.
He made his first appearance at Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on a charge of murder.
With Pistorius being a well-known Olympic and Paralympic star, social media was abuzz with people across the world commenting on the shooting as well as relaying messages of support.
Pistorius’ murder case date has been set for March 3 to 20 next year in the North Gauteng High Court.
