The Commission for Gender Equality (CGE) has instituted internal processes against one of its commissioners.

The commission says a recording of Mbuyiselo Botha has emerged in which he allegedly objectifies and demeans the commission’s chairperson, her Deputy and two other commissioners.

Botha has apologised for calling fellow commissioner Nomasonto Mazibuko an albino.

He also allegedly verbally attacked commission chairperson Tamara Mathebula saying she lacks a backbone.

CGE spokesperson Javu Baloyi says as soon as the process is finalised the commission will communicate the findings.

“The commission has instituted internal disciplinary processes. We condemn such utterances in the strongest way and abuse cannot be tolerated irregardless of where it comes from. As such the commission felt the need to move with speed to institute these proceedings against Mr Botha who has already acknowledged that it was his voice,” adds Baloyi.
