Telkom CEO designate says digital TV will be one of his target areas

Telkom CEO designate Serame Taukobong says he will continue in the process of unlocking value in the telecoms operator – established by the outgoing CEO, Sipho Maseko.

Telkom is widely considered by many analysts a success story where government ceded some control of the parastatal and allowed talented management to take the company forward.

Taukobong is currently the CEO of Telkom Consumer Business. He had previously served as CEO of MTN Ghana.

Taukobong says he will be working closely with Maseko from October this year until Maseko leaves at the end of June next year.

The CEO designate says digital TV will be one of his target areas.

Share price reacts positively to the announcement

Telkom’s share price increased 1-percent after the telecoms company announced the appointment of  Taukobong as its CEO Designate.

Market analyst Patrick Mathidi says, “The market welcomed the announcement the share price is up. It gives comfort as opposed to when the initial announcement about Mr Maseko stepping down, there was a vacuum about secession. In terms of value creation, he understands that he has been part of the Telkom exco so he should be familiar with other parts of the business going forward.”
