Police are firing tear gas to remove protesting students from the University of Venda in Thohoyandou in Limpopo.

Some students have been resisting to vacate the campus despite an order by university management for them to leave.

Students have been protesting and demanding the payment of various allowances including meals and books since last Monday.

SRC president, Gcina Mhlabane says NSFAS started paying allowances to some students on Sunday.

Mhlabane says protests are still continuing and the police have invaded the campus together with private security which has been hired by the university.

She says: “They are firing tear gas every where including inside residences and every where were students are gathered.”
