The bail application of a 35-year-old school teacher arrested on a charge of rape is underway in the Thabamoopo Magistrate’s Court at Lebowakgomo in Limpopo.
David Rammala allegedly raped a 14-year-old learner on Monday last week.
It is alleged that he lured the girl under the pretext of helping her with school work.
The state is opposing bail.
David Rammala has submitted his bail application by way of an affidavit which his lawyer read to the court.
Rammala says he intends pleading not guilty to the rape charge as he believes the state does not have concrete evidence against him.
He has asked the court to grant him bail because he has no previous convictions or pending cases.
He has also mentioned that remaining in custody might result in him losing his income, which he uses to support his five children.
Rammala has promised to adhere to all bail conditions.
