The Task team that President Cyril Ramaphosa has appointed to probe governance issues in the North West has declined to comment on premier Supra Mahumapelo’s claim that there’s a plot to assassinate him.

Brian Setswambung who is from the Premier’s office says a case of conspiracy to commit murder has been opened at the Mahikeng police station.

He says Mahumapelo received the news about the alleged plot on Saturday.

The plot allegedly involves hiring hitmen who have already been paid R 250 000.

The task team’s spokesperson Pumla Williams says: “I represent the ministers, and I can only tell you what the ministers have done, and what they are planning to do. I think it would be wrong for me to say what are my thoughts about the killing of the Premier or whatever.”

However, Setswambung says they are worried about the alleged plot.

“The office of the Premier is concerned about information that has come to Premier Mahumapelo about a plot to assassinate him. The hitmen who are hired to assassinate him were to be paid the rest of the money after they would have executed the plot.”
