Tanzania issues flooding alert as cyclone Kenneth looms

Tanzanian authorities have told its citizens to prepare for severe thunderstorms and flooding as tropical storm Kenneth heads towards the south of the country.

Winds of up to 180km/h are expected over the next 48 hrs.

Tanzania’s Meterological agency has issued a national warning for tropical storm Kenneth.

The agency said that the tropical storm continues to get stronger as it passes the Comoros islands heading towards the border between Tanzania and Mozambique.

It is expected to make landfall as it enters the south of Tanzania in coastal areas like Lindi, Mtwara and Ruvuma.

Over the next 48 hours, the the storm is expected to become a level 6 cyclone.

Residents have been told to expect heavy rains, severe thunder storms, strong winds and flooding and to seek refugee on higher ground. Reporting by Daniel Kijo
