The City of Ekurhuleni is adamant that it is not in any way contributing to the pollution of the Vaal River system. City officials from the Department of Water and Sanitation are making oral submissions on the second day of the inquiry into the sewage pollution of the Vaal River.
Some good news for people facing daily water woes, funds will be re-allocated to tackle the ongoing sewerage spilling into the Vaal River.
Aquatic specialists estimate that 90% of aquatic life in some areas of the Vaal has been eliminated due to pollution.
The Human Rights Commission of Inquiry into the state of the Vaal River has heard that the Emfuleni Municipality is not solely responsible for the pollution but a number of industries, companies and other municipalities have also contributed.
