By-elections are expected to be held in the Sol Plaatje Municipality in the Northern Cape after the provincial African National Congress(ANC) confirmed the expulsion of nine of its members in the municipal council.
A R590 million rates and taxes bill is owed to the Northern Cape’s Sol Plaatje Municipality in Kimberley by the provincial Public Works department and has become a source of dispute between the two parties.
Kimberley’s Sol Plaatje Municipality has an outstanding debt of more than half a billion rand.
The ANC in the Northern Cape says it does not accept the newly elected executive mayor of the Sol Plaatje Municipality.
Northern Cape Premier says Kimberley’s Sol Plaatje Municipality has until Thursday to sit or it will face legal implications.
