The South African Municipal Workers’ Union (Samwu) in Kimberley in the Northern Cape has warned that the Sol Plaatje Municipality’s repeated failure to table a damning report on the municipality’s affairs will have dire consequences.
Residents of Kimberley say since they took to the streets calling for alleged corruption at the Sol Plaatje Municipality to be dealt with, little has changed.
By-elections are under way in Ward 28 in the Sol Plaatje Municipality in Kimberley. The ward was left vacant after a Democratic Alliance councillor resigned and joined the African National Congress.
The ANC in the Northern Cape says it instructed the Sol Plaatje municipality to consult with community members before implementing an 11% electricity hike.
