Humanitarian group – Gift of the Givers has sent rescue teams to assist with relief efforts in Malawi and Mozambique hit by Tropical Cyclone Idai.
Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan and Eskom board chairperson Jabu Mabuza will brief the media on the current electricity supply problems that the country is currently experiencing on Tuesday morning.
The cyclone has also killed 98 people and more than 200 are missing in Zimbabwe, the government said, while the death toll in Malawi from heavy rains and flooding stood at 56 as of last week.
The death toll has risen to 96 in Zimbabwe after Cyclone Idai struck the eastern and the southern parts of the country, creating a humanitarian crisis in a country grappling with serious economic problems and a drought.
The United Nations says more than 100 people have died in weeks of heavy rain and flooding in southern Africa.
