Zimbabwe has postponed the re-opening of schools planned for next week, the government said on Wednesday, due to a surge in coronavirus infections and a tropical storm sweeping through the region.
The powerful tropical storm Chalane made landfall near the central Mozambique city of Beira early on Wednesday, bringing heavy rain and wind but less damage than had been initially expected to an area devastated by a cyclone nearly two years ago.
The meeting is a follow-up to the SADC Organ Troika Summit recently held in Gaborone, Botswana on 27 November 2020.
Close to 30 households in Nkomazi in Mpumalanga on the border with Eswatini and Mozambique have been left without shelter after a heavy storm ravaged the area.
The EU has agreed to provide Mozambique with 100 million euros ($116.30 million) in coronavirus-related aid, EU Ambassador Antonio Sanchez-Benedito Gaspar said on Monday.
