TAC, Saftu to march at Esidimeni hearings

The Treatment Action Campaign (TAC) and the South African Federation of Trade Unions (Saftu) are planning to march to the venue of the Life Esidimeni arbitration hearing in Parktown Johannesburg on Monday.

The march seeks to address their concerns in the Gauteng health system.

Former Gauteng Health MEC Qedani Mahlangu is expected to testify at the arbitration hearing from Monday.

The TAC’s Anele Yawa says they believe there’s a need for mass action to show support for the Life Esidimeni victims and their families.

“We are having this march to submit a memorandum to the premier of Gauteng David Makhura where we are calling upon Makhura to step up as the premier of Gauteng and fix the broken health care system of Gauteng. But also on top of that, we are calling on Mahlangu to be expelled as the MPL and to be expelled as a member of the ANC. Mahlangu and her crew need to be prosecuted,” says Yawa.
