Mining charter should not have gone to court: Mantashe

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Minister of Mineral Resource Gwede Mantashe says in his view, the mining charter should not have gone to court.

This comes after the newly elected minister had to deal with a very thorny issue of the charter which had stirred controversy between his predecessor Mosebenzi Zwane and the Chamber of Mines.

Mantashe says they are back on the table looking at the contents of the disagreement.

“Since the dispute is on charter three that will be our starting point. We will point out problems in charter three and work on correcting them. What comes out of that may be published as the revised charter three or charter four.”
