10 Swimmers are set to take part in a 22km relay from Cape Point to Simon’s Town on Saturday morning to support efforts to conserve the sensitive Wild Coast eco-system.

The Eastern Cape’s Pondoland Marine Protected Area is said to be under threat from dune mining and over-fishing.

At 10 am, the swimmers will make their way along the hazardous False Bay coastline in two groups to Seaforth Beach at Simon’s Town.

They will be led by global open water veteran, Andrew Chin.

Chin says there’s huge community support for alternatives like eco-tourism and they hope their swim will highlight efforts to protect the ocean and dunes from devastation.

Funds raised from the event will go towards the “Wild Swim” initiative.
