Suspects linked to Gupta properties to appear in court

The five suspects arrested during the raid of the Gupta -linked properties in Johannesburg are on Thursday expected to appear in court in Bloemfontein.

Their arrest follows Wednesday’s early morning raids at the Saxonworld residence of the Gupta brothers, as well as at a property believed to be owned by a Gupta associate and former managing director of Gupta-owned company, Sahara Systems in Bedfordview.

The Hawks say the raids are just the start of a larger operation targeting alleged fraud, corruption, theft and money laundering, believed to be linked to state capture and irregularities at the Estina dairy farm in Vrede in the Free State.

Hawks spokesperson Hangwani Mulaudzi says investigations are still ongoing and this is not the end of it.

He says: “This was just one part or one leg of the investigation. There are other legs that we are still pursuing. Hopefully sooner or later we will be seeing similar operations that we experienced today.”

“More arrests are still expected. We know exactly how many people we want in the sense that the warrants are active so those who do not comply, of course the law will take its course,” adds Mulaudzi.
