The five men arrested in connection with the double cash-in-transit heist in Boksburg will be back in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

Paul Sibanda, Thato Gaopantwe, Sibusiso Khumalo, Collen Hadebe and Thabo Molefe are charged with attempted murder, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, robbery with aggravating circumstances, possession of explosives and malicious damage to property.

The brazen daylight heist happened on Atlas Road in Boksburg on the 17th of May.

The alleged robbers blew up two G4S cash vans and fled with an undisclosed amount of money.

At least eight people were injured. The matter was postponed to Monday for further investigation.

Cash-in-transit heist in Bloemfontein

A panelbeater arrested last Wednesday following a cash-in-transit heist at a Bloemfontein filling station will appear in the local magistrates court.

A vehicle belonging to the Free State ANC deputy chairperson William Bulwane was allegedly used during the heist. The suspect was stopped driving the same vehicle without registration plates.

Police found one R5 rifle, a pistol, rifle magazines, and an undisclosed amount of cash, all apparently related to the heist.

The ANC in the Free State has distanced itself and its leadership from the cash-in-transit heist. Spokesperson Thabo Meeko says Bulwane took his car for repairs to a panelbeater’s following a crash in May.

Meeko says Bulwane is cooperating with the police.
