A suspected drug courier has been arrested at the O.R Tambo International Airport in Gauteng after attempting to smuggle two parcels of suspected cocaine to the Seychelles.

The suspect was arrested on Thursday night. The estimated street value of the alleged drugs is believed to be R 140 000.

Airports Company South Africa spokesperson Leigh Gunkel-Kleur says the suspects behaviour rose suspicion.

“The Seychelles national had been due to leave South Africa on flight HM60 to his home islands. His behaviour aroused the suspicion of security officers at a checkpoint. The security officers requested that a search be conducted in private by two other officers. As airport management we have congratulated our security officers who continue to carry out security at the airport with professionalism and care.”
