Cape Town police say a suspect is in hospital under police guard following attempted cash in transit heist in the Strand Saturday.

Police spokesperson Noloyiso Rwexana says security guards were picking up cash outside a store on the main road at lunch time, when they were approached by four robbers, two of whom were armed.

She says in a shoot-out between the security guards and the robbers, one of the perpetrators were killed.

“Another suspect shot at the police and Police retaliated. A 32 year old suspect was shot and wounded. He was taken to hospital for treatment. Once charged, he will appear in the Strand Magistrates court. Two illegal fire arms were seized in this incident.”
