Suspect in Esther Mahlangu robbery case to appear in court

One suspect arrested in connection with the robbery of renowned Ndebele artist Esther Mahlangu is expected to appear in the Siyabuswa Magistrate’s Court in Mpumalanga on Wednesday morning.

He’s expected to make a bail application.

Mahlangu was assaulted, strangled and robbed of an undisclosed amount of money and firearm at her home at Emthambothini near Siyabuswa, last month.

She sustained facial injuries after the robber punched and strangled her until she lost consciousness. She then contacted the police after regaining consciousness.

Two men have been arrested in connection with the incident.

Over a week ago, one of the suspects was granted bail of R3 000.

Following the attack, officials including Mpumalanga Premier visited Mahlangu’s home to check up on her.
