Suspect appears in Mahikeng court for possession of lion bones

One of four suspects arrested for allegedly being found in possession of lion bones at Dingateng village just outside Mahikeng, has been remanded in custody by the local Magistrate’s Court.

Andrew Mompe appeared briefly in court and is facing charges of contravening the National Environmental Management Act.

He was arrested by the Tshidilamolomo Police in conjunction with the Hawks together with three others. The other three suspects are expected to appear on Thursday as their docket had not yet been enrolled.

Mompe will appear next Wednesday for formal bail application.
