Susan Rohde’s ‘suicide cable’ was no strong enough to hang herself: Poolman

Police Forensic Engineer Danie Poolman has told the High Court in Cape Town that an electric cable found around the neck of Susan Rohde could not have been strong enough for her to hang herself.

Her husband, Jason Rohde, is on trial for her murder, but maintains that she committed suicide at the Spier Wine Estate in July 2016.

Poolman says based on the tests he conducted, the cable would have broken if it was tied around the bathroom door’s hook.

Handyman Desmond Daniels testified on Wednesday that he found Susan Rohde with a cord around her neck, which was tied in a single strand, and attached to the hook of the bathroom door.

Poolman says he also found no failures, or fractures in the cable he tested. He said this indicates there was never really a great deal of pressure or strain on the chord.

The trial is set to continue on the 14th of March.
