SuperSport has confirmed that its senior management is meeting with all three presenters and its production staff on Monday.
This follows the outcry after rugby presenter Ashwin Willemse walked off a live set during Saturday’s Super Rugby production.
Willemse said at the time that he was tired of being labelled a “quota player” and refused to be “patronised by two individuals who played in an apartheid/segregated era”, referring to fellow presenters Nick Mallett and Naas Botha.
Multichoice CEO Calvo Mawelo says they have taken note of both public sentiment and the comments of Sports Minister Thokozile Xasa, and will not tolerate prejudice of any sort.
SuperSport has given no indication of how long their investigation will last.
We can speculate, we can (but have no right to) judge, we can have our own opinion, but in the end #Ashwinwillemse must have been provoked to such an extent that he needed to express his outrage on live on #Supersport… Hang in there Ashwin pic.twitter.com/Cfh3LSygHq
