Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach, Manqoba Mngqithi, says they will not rely on past records at home when they face DR Congo side, AS Maniema Union, in the return leg of their CAF Champions League preliminary round match.

The Brazilians scored two away goals in their two-all draw last weekend.

The Pretoria side will also go into the match following their 1-0 DSTV Premiership victory over Golden Arrows on Wednesday.

Following the 2-all draw in the Congo, Sundowns had to quickly regroup for the league match against Arrows. Despite their busy schedule, they managed another league win which would have also served as preparation for this weekend’s clash in the CAF competition.

Sundowns have done relatively well playing at home in the Champions League, but for Mngqithi, history is not the most important thing. He says they will have to focus on the match at hand. Sundowns are also confident and hopeful that they have what it takes to pin down their opponents.

“The fact that we have scored two goals away from home might mean nothing in this match because they can score a goal and we are already trailing we must make sure that we still dominate to fight to win the match and give a very good account of ourselves” says Mngqithi.
