Mamelodi Sundowns have now stretched their lead on top of the DSTV Premiership to five points after a 2-0 win over Chippa United in Pretoria on Sunday afternoon.

Sundowns could have won the match by an avalanche of goals but settled for the two goals win after scoring both in the opening half.

Before kick-off, Sundowns players paid their last respects to former defender Motjeka Madisha who died in a car accident on 12 December 2020.

Lebohang Maboe broke the deadlock with his first goal of the season in the 23rd minute after connecting with a cross from Peter Shalulile.

Uruguayan Gaston Sirino made it 2-0 with a simple tap in seven minutes before the break.

The Brazilians will now shift their focus to the Nedbank Cup when they host Stellenbosch FC in the last 32-encounter on Wednesday.
