Sundowns edge closer to Chiefs

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Themba Zwane scored the all-important goal as Mamelodi Sundowns beat Stellenbosch FC 1-0 at the Athlone Stadium in an Absa Premiership game on Wednesday night.

Zwane’s 10th-minute strike proved to be the winner in a fast-paced clash that sees Sundowns move four points behind log leaders Kaizer Chiefs, with Sundowns still having a game in hand.

Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane says it was a tough game and he is happy to come away with the three points.

In the audio below, Mosimane says that Stellenbosch coach Steve Barker came into the game with some good plans, and Sundowns had to work hard for the win.

In the audio below,  Barker says he cannot question his team’s effort and thinks his team was unlucky to come from the game empty-handed.

Barker says it was an entertaining fast and frenetic game, but perhaps Sundowns had the upper hand when it came to sharpness at the start. – Report by Rob Delport
