Mamelodi Sundowns failed to close the gap on log leaders Orlando Pirates, when they lost 2-0 to Supersport United in a league match at Loftus Vesrfeld stadium in Pretoria on Wednesday night. Grant Kekana opened the scoring in the 29th minute with a header and Zambian international attacker Ghampani Lungu increased the lead in the 80th minute to seal victory for the visitors.

Sundowns came back from Egypt on Monday following their 5-1 aggregate win against Al Ahly in a CAF Champions League quarterfinal match on Saturday. They are sitting in third position with 44 points, six points behind leaders Pirates with two matches in hand.

Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane was disappointed with the performance.

Mosimane says they missed their injured players Lebohang Maboe, Thapelo Morena and Gaston Sirino who was suspended.

Supersport managed to beat Sundowns for the first time in a league match since 2013. Sundowns won the first round match 2-1 in December. Supersport Coach Kaitano Tembo says they managed the game very well.

Tembo says they were never under pressure in the match.
