Jomo Cosmos Coach and owner Jomo Sono believes that Mamelodi Sundowns can reach the CAF Champions League final. Sundowns will lock horns with Wydad Casablanca from Morocco in a two-legged semi-final.

The first leg will take place on Friday in Casablanca with the second leg taking place on the 4th of next month. The Brazilians demolished Egyptian giants Al Ahly 5-1 on aggregate in the quarter-finals.

The big three teams are likely to play continental football next season. Sundowns and Orlando Pirates are favourites to finish in the top two in the league and return to the champions league. Kaizer Chiefs are the favourites to win the Nedbank Cup and return to the CAF Confederations Cup. Sono says it will be good for SA football.

Sono guided his team Cosmos to the semi-finals of the African Cup Winner’s Cup in 1993 (currently known as the Confederations Cup). Cosmos lost to Africa Sports from Ivory Coast 5-1 on aggregate. Cosmos team had the likes of Mark Fish, Helman Mkhalele, who went on to win the Africa Cup of Nations with Bafana Bafana in 1996. Sono says it is difficult to play on the continent.

Cosmos are struggling in the National First Division this season. They are currently lying 14th on the log with 31 points in 28 matches. They are just a point above Real Kings, who are in the relegation zone. Witbank Spurs are already relegated to the ABC Motsepe league. Sono is convinced they will gain promotion to PSL next season.
