Stompie Seipei’s mother forgives those implicated in his murder

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Late activist Stompie Seipei‘s mother says she has forgiven all those who were involved in her son’s murder in 1989.

Joyce Seipei spoke to the media on Sunday afternoon at her home in Parys in the Free State.

The 14-year-old Seipei was kidnapped and killed by former coach of the Mandela football club, Jerry Richardson, in 1989.

Former Police Commissioner George Fivaz has insisted that there was never evidence linking Mama Winnie to Seipei’s murder.

Seipei recalls a conversation she had with Mama Winnie during a session for families of activists who were killed during the apartheid era and were seeking closure.

Stompie’s mother had attended the session with her other child.

“I went to the toilet and I said God the Father, I ask that you help me forgive because this thing is going to consume me in inside.”

“Then I came across Mama Winnie in the toilet and no one knew about that. The first thing she said to me, “This child looks exactly like Stompie.”

“May God the Father forgive me.” And I have since forgiven Mama Winnie because only God knows who did it. But I have forgiven all those whose names were mentioned in Stompie’s murder.”
