Steve Komphela under pressure to win important games

Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela is under pressure to win at least one piece of silverware for the ever demanding Amakhosi faithful and he has targeted the Nedbank Cup.

Komphela has not won any silverware at Chiefs and his three year contract comes to an end in May 2017.

The second round of the Nedbank Cup gets underway this evening, while Chiefs will host NFD side, Stellenbosch FC in Durban on Saturday evening.

Chiefs have realised that the league title is out of their reach. They believe that they need to give their mentor and former Chiefs’ defender a good send off before the season ends.

Since Komphela started his coaching career more than ten years ago, he hasn’t won any official silverware.

Bernard Parker Chiefs striker says:”It would definitely be for Coach Steve winning, something for the first time in his career at such a massive club will be a cherry on top for him.”

But despite trailing the ABSA Premiership log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns by eight points, Komphela has not given up on winning the double.

“Let’s drive this game model the way we play. We must yield the results and there is no better way than winning.”

Chiefs last played against Stellenbosch FC in the same tournament last season. Joseph Malongwane, Siphiwe Tshabalala and Gustavo Paez all found the back of the net to bury the Western Cape-based team.

That was in the first round though. The second round starts this evening when AmaZulu take on Ubuntu Cape Town.

But the highlight of the weekend is Saturday’s entire ABSA Premiership affair between Free State Stars and Chippa United.
