The Gauteng Health Department has terminated the contract of Born to Protect Security Company with immediate effect.

The month-to-month contract was for providing security services at the Steve Biko Academic hospital.

The termination of the contract is due to the striking employees refusing to be posted, blocking hospital entrances with stones and vandalising signage at the hospital.

The hospital’s acting CEO, Dr Mathabo Mathebula says the companies employee embarked on an unprotected strike over the allegations that they have not received their salaries among other concerns.

Mathebula says it is unnaceptable behaviour and as head of the hospital he can not allow the disruption of services that compromise patients and employee’s safety.
