Stellenbosch want a win against Baroka, release two foreign players

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Stellenbosch FC are looking for a win against Baroka FC, in their last Absa Premiership match of the year at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday.

A win for the Western Cape side would see them move off the bottom of the table. Having played two-thirds of their games so far this season away from home, it has been a tough first season in the top tier for Steve Barker’s side. But Barker feels a win on Saturday would leave them in a good space ahead of the second half of the season.

Victory would lift the rookies above their 12th-placed opponents, and Barker feels it would be a good way to end the year.

This time last year Stellenbosch were leading the race for promotion in the National First Division, and Barker says it has been an incredible 12 month period of growth for the club.

Meanwhile, the club announced this week it had released two foreign players, Ghanaian Dickson Afoakwa, who joined at the start of the season, and Cameroonian Junior Awono, who joined last year.

Barker says they are considering a few signings for January, but nothing has been finalised yet. – Report by Rob Delport
