The IEC has appointed the Statistician General to conduct an investigation into allegations of double voting.

This follows disputes by some political parties alleging the elections were not free and fair.

There have been reports that people were able to remove the indelible ink that was used and vote more than once.

However, the IEC says despite the 22 people arrested, of which 17 are from Dannhauser in KwaZulu-Natal, there has not been any evidence that anyone has voted more than once.

The IEC’s Judge Dhaya Pillay says, “None of those people that were arrested were found at the conclusion of the investigation to have double voted.”

“So no one has been found to have double votes, but just the attempt of doing so is punishable.”

About 27 political parties have launched a legal bid to stop the IEC from releasing the disputed results.

Watch the leaders of the Black First Land First (BLF), Andile Mngxitama, and African Content Movement, Hlaudi Motsoeneng’s reaction to the 2019 general election results.
