State’s farm revitalisation programme bears fruit

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Government’s three-year-old farm revitalisation programme, which assists new farm owners who are beneficiaries of the land restitution process, is showing good results.

Many farmers have restarted production, one of them a banana farm in Hazyview, Mpumalanga.

The farm was handed over to the community 10 years ago. At the time it was one of the best producing farms, but a few years after the handover, productivity started to decline and the farm collapsed.

The failure was attributed to lack of unity among farm beneficiaries and lack of skills. Government intervened and rescued the farm by investing money.
