Senior Counsel, Advocate Paul Pretorius, says the Commission of Inquiry into State Capture will deal with allegations of fraud and corruption relating to the purchase of 1064 locomotives for more than R50 billion by Transnet in 2014.

Advocate Pretorius says the commission will probe allegations of kickbacks paid to front companies belonging to associates of the Gupta family in the purchase of the locomotives.

He says the commission will investigate allegations of corruption against Transnet executives, advisory service providers and international counterparts.

Advocate Pretorius is placing on record documents relating to Transnet at the State Capture Commission of Inquiry in Parktown, Johannesburg.
