Load shedding is to get under way nationwide shortly. Eskom has announced that stage two load shedding will be implemented from nine this evening until five in the morning on Monday.

The cash-strapped power utility says this is because of a shortage of generating capacity as a result of numerous breakdowns at power plants.

It says more than 15 000 megawatts has been lost to the grid because of the breakdowns and an additional 4 900 megawatts of capacity is not available because of planned maintenance.
