Stacey Adams murder prompts Bonteheuwel march

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Gunshots have gone off in Bonteheuwel on the Cape Flats as community members marched through the streets of the township calling for peace.

The march organised by the Joint Peace Forum is calling for an end to violence against children.

This follows last weekend’s murder of six-year-old Stacey Adams, whose body was discovered in a shallow grave.

Spokesperson for the Peace Forum, Faldielah Haupt says children of the Cape Flats are living in fear for their lives.

Basil Lawrence, who was part of the march, says his son was shot last year and says his alleged killers are walking the streets of Bonteheuwel.

Many marchers wearing green T-shirts are holding placards in memory of Adams.

She was allegedly murdered by her mother’s boyfriend in Mitchells Plain.

Organisers say the gunshots going off in broad daylight, is a daily occurrence in these communities, even on school premises.

They want high level intervention as they handed over a memorandum of grievance at a nearby satellite police station.
