There’s been a recount of the votes cast at Ward 4 in Huhudu, near Vryburg in the North West. Opposition parties raised the alarm about possible vote rigging.

The Socialist Revolutionary Workers Party (SRWP) says there were 730 more ballots. The number of ballots counted far exceeded the number of ballot books reserved for the voting station.

The Electoral Commission (IEC) was alerted of this irregularity and the police were notified.

SRWP Regional Secretary, Thuto Moloi, says that they were forced to recount.

“The votes did not tally. So we were forced to recount. So that’s what’s been happening. So all the opposition parties came together to say that they are not happy with what is happening. We need the IEC to facilitate the process to recount them. You cannot have votes that do not tally in an excess of 730 votes.”

Sylvester Cohen of the Economic Freedom Fighters  (EFF) says they are not happy with the manner in which the IEC has conducted these elections.

“We are not happy totally about IEC and the manner that they have conducted these elections. Our stand point is that they actually brought us people who are untrained, people who are unprofessional; so therefore, these elections according to me, they are not free and fair.”
