President Cyril Ramaphosa says the violence perpetrated by men against women remains a scourge and national crisis.

In his letter from the President’s Desk, President Cyril Ramaphosa has lauded the victory of the Springboks this weekend saying it confirmed that South Africa is a nation determined to find unity in its diversity.

He says that the manner in which the country, despite its challenges, rallied behind the team, showed the potential of sports and the arts to foster social cohesion.

He has also urged citizens to use the euphoria and optimism produced by the Boks victory to inspire a collective effort to confront the country’s challenges.

In the letter he also called on all sectors of society including the media, churches, business and political parties to do more to foster a more inclusive and cohesive society.

He adds that sports and recreation facilities must be better resourced so that young men and women who cherish dreams of sporting success attain their goals.

The President also touched on the progress made in promoting the empowerment of women as reflected by last week’s business women’s summit and the potential of this week’s second Investment Summit to raise South Africans standard of living.
