The Speaker of the Lichtenburg-based Ditsobotla Local Municipality in the North West, Fekile Jakeni, has passed away. Jakeni’s death was confirmed by his family.
He was placed on extended sick leave earlier this week and the Chief Whip of Democratic Alliance’s Ronald Matlholwa was elected as the Acting Speaker of the municipality.
The municipality has described Jakeni as a friend, a mentor, and a guide to all who had the privilege of working alongside him and his contribution to the community is immeasurable.
Details regarding the funeral and memorial service will be shared in due course.
