South Africa’s medallists at Olympics and Paralympics to be rewarded

After initial uncertainty and confusion, South Africa’s medallists and their coaches at both the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Tokyo, will be richly rewarded for their efforts.

Sports Minister Nathi Mthethwa announced that gold medallists would receive R450 000 and their coaches R120 000.

Silver medallists would pocket R220 000 and their coaches R70 000, while a bronze medal winner will get R100 00o and the coach R30 000.

Those who set a new world record can expect a further R180 00. This means Tatjana Schoenmaker’s bank balance will grow by R850 000.

South Africa’s golden girl at the Tokyo Olympics won gold and silver. She also set a new world record in the pool.
