South Africans weigh in on Freedom Day

As South Africans came out in their numbers to celebrate Freedom Day in their numbers, to remember South Africa’s history, reflect on its socio-political progress and participate in the festivities that were on offer for the day.

Some people had good things to say about democracy and reflected positively on freedom in the country post-apartheid but others raised concerns of the ills that continue to plague the Government and the people.

Young people listened to President Jacob Zuma’s speech and garnered sentiments of hope from his address while gearing up to enjoy the festivities at the Union Building in Pretoria, while older civilians lamented the abuse of freedom and the manipulation of the meaning of democracy to meet selfish ends.
