South Africans urged to vote for Table Mountain as leading tourist attraction

Reading Time: 2 minutes

South Africans have until this weekend to vote for Table Mountain as the leading tourist attraction in the world in the annual World Travel Awards.

As the 2019 winner of the leading attraction in Africa, it’s in the same category for this year.

The mountain is going up against five other African giants such as Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania and the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt.

The awards are in recognition of excellence in the tourism and hospitality industries.

Managing Director of the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Company, Wahida Parker says “You were the ones that voted so that we can have that famous accolade of being one of the seven wonders of the world. Now we call on you again to help us to restart the tourism industry and to make sure that visitors have us at the top of their mind when they’re choosing destinations.”

Voting can be done by visiting the world travel awards website. The winners will be announced next month.

In October last year, month-long celebrations took place as one of Cape Town’s most famous tourist attractions turned 90. The Table Mountain Cable car started operating on the 4th of October 1929.
