South Africans urged to get vaccinated before fourth COVID-19 wave in December

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The Acting DG of the Health Department Dr Nicholas Crisp has reiterated that South Africa is almost certain to experience a fourth wave of coronavirus – but the size of the wave will depend on how many people are vaccinated and continue wearing masks.

Dr Crisp says the wave may arrive in South Africa in December.

He has again urged people to get the COVID-19 vaccine as it will offer them protection against severe illness.

Dr Crisp has expressed disappointment that the government has not been able to vaccinate the envisaged 300 000 people per day – saying there has not been sufficient demand from South Africans for the jabs.

He says COVID could be with us for at least five years.
